Lagoon Afternoon Cruise – Venice from the Outside

This is a short yet breathtaking journey to discover Venice from a different perspective — from the outside, across the open lagoon. We depart from the vibrant Fondamente Nove, leaving the canals behind as we head into the wide lagoon horizon.

We first pass the island of San Michele, Venice’s cemetery island, known as the “garden of silence,” with its cypress trees rising above its walls and its striking Renaissance church facade.

Continuing along the southern side of Murano, you will see a completely different face of the island: old furnaces, warehouses, and industrial waterfronts that tell the story of centuries of glassmaking tradition.

We then glide toward Certosa Island, a peaceful and wild green oasis. Wooden piers and dense vegetation create a striking contrast with the lagoon waters, and if you look closely, you may even spot rabbits near the shore as we pass between Certosa and the Vignole.

The route continues toward the Port of Venice inlet, where we admire the impressive Fort Sant’Andrea, a 16th-century fortress built to defend the city. Rising directly from the water, it marks the historic boundary between the lagoon and the open sea.

On our way back, we sail along the Lido of Venice, where elegant buildings and pine forests stretch along the shoreline. From this distance, Venice appears like a floating masterpiece of domes and bell towers.

Grand Finale – St. Mark’s Basin:
After passing Fort Sant’Andrea and the Lido, we enter the iconic St. Mark’s Basin. This is Venice at its most spectacular — the view once seen by merchants and ambassadors arriving from the sea.

To your left, the majestic Doge’s Palace and St. Mark’s Campanile rise above the water as if floating. Ahead, the famous waterfront promenade of Riva degli Schiavoni unfolds, while to the right the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, with its Palladian church and green-capped bell tower, creates a perfect architectural balance — one of the most iconic panoramas in the world.
